Canvass Goals: Build a broad base of support -100,000 pledges to act nationwide – for an upcoming legislative effort in 2010 to enact recommendations of the Genocide Prevention Task Force Report of 2008. Opportunities for activist leadership training are available.
A Canvass is anything that gets people to sign a genocide prevention pledge (tabling at school. church, or synagogue; obtaining signatures at a mall; asking for pledges as the price of admission to an event; anything that works in your community).

Join an inspiring conversation with Amnesty International’s senior leadership on poverty and human rights on October 27th as we celebrate the launching of The Unheard Truth: Poverty and Human Rights with Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Irene Khan. The book foreword is by Kofi Annan.
The event is in collaboration with The University of San Francisco. Book copies will be available for purchase.
McLaren Center located at 2130 Fulton Street in San Francisco. The book signing will begin at 5:30 pm, with the panel discussion to follow at 6:00 pm. There will be copies of the book available for purchase.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice and Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration, announced the Administration’s Sudan strategy. The policy includes Critical Lessons Learned from Past Efforts, U.S. Strategic Objectives, Key Implementation Elements, and Outreach and Consultation.
Strategic Objectives include:
Strategic Objective I: A definitive end to conflict, gross human rights abuses, and genocide in Darfur.
Strategic Objective II: Implementation of the CPA that results in a peaceful post-2011 Sudan or an orderly transition to two separate and viable states at peace with each other.
Strategic Objective III: Ensure that Sudan does not serve as a safe haven for terrorists.

CITIES NATIONWIDE – October 12, 2009 – Today Darfuri organizations representing over 1000 Darfuris who live throughout the United States called on President Obama to replace Special Envoy Major General Scott Gration. In an open letter to the President, the Darfuris expressed their grave concern about the recent attacks in Darfur and the direction of US policy under Special Envoy Gration. Copies of the letter were also sent to key decision makers in the Administration and on Capitol Hill, and a translated version has been disseminated to foreign media outlets.

In a hard-hitting letter to President Obama, co-chairs of the Congressional Sudan Caucus provided a list of reasons why they are “deeply concerned” about the U.S. policy toward to Sudan. Committee Co-Chairs, Congressmen Michael E. Capuano (D-MA), Frank Wolf (R-VA), Donald M. Payne (D-NJ), and Michael T. Darfuri speaks on his human rights abuse experiences.
The consequence of creating the human rights organization, Sudan Social Development Organization (SUDO) in 2001, has caused Adeeb Yousif to be detained twice by the Sudanese Government and suffer torture while in detention for 11 months.
Adeeb will speak about his experiences as a human rights activist in Sudan and in the U.S., the current situation in Darfur and Sudan, and his hopes for peace in his native country. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and question and answer session.
